A rapid phase-out of coal power is essential to limit global heating to 1.5 degrees.

2021 began with a landmark moment as Ember revealed renewables overtook fossil fuels as Europe's main source of electricity in 2020, whilst the globe saw the largest in coal on record.

Throughout 2021 our message has been clear: coal must be consigned to history. And we’ve been at the forefront of changing policy to make this happen. From shaping the Indian government’s coal commitments at COP26, to deep involvement in launching the new EU methane strategy, to leading the campaign which won a UK commitment to 2035 zero-carbon power - Ember is now a key force in tracking the global electricity transition and creating the policy that shapes it.
