Staffan Qvist presented our Whitepaper “Financing the Clean Repowering of Coal Power” at London Climate Action Week 2024
Repower Initiatives launched its latest whitepaper – “Financing the Clean Repowering of Coal Power“- during London Climate Action Week 2024 hashtag#LCAW24.
The whitepaper introduces the concept of Repowering to the finance community, highlighting tangible alternatives for decarbonizing coal fired power plants (CFPPs).
Following events in Singapore and Indonesia earlier in the month, the Repower Initiative brought its report launch tour to a close during hashtag#LondonClimateActionWeek2024. The event brought a diverse range of experts together to discuss how the repowering of coal-fired power plants can become a powerful decarbonisation lever in the transition to net zero.
We were delighted to have H.E. Rachmat Kaimuddin, Deputy Coordinating Minister for Transportation and Coordinating Ministry of Maritime and Investment Affairs of Indonesia Infrastructure open the event. He spoke about the need to explore alternatives to fossils fuels in Indonesia and to develop tailored solutions that respond to the local policy, regulatory, economic, and social contexts.
The engaging panel discussion that ensued saw colleagues from Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) and Quantified Carbon explore the role of repowering in the context of the hashtag#JETPs and where there is the greatest potential for repowering projects; and colleagues from HSBC and The Carbon Trust outline some of the key considerations for financing the repowering of coal fired power plant to help make them bankable and the key policy enablers required to make repowering possible.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to the H.E Rachmat Kaimuddin, our speakers and panelists, and all those who attended. With a special thank you to HSBC for convening this event and The Carbon Trust for hosting us.
Special thanks to the following people: Jenny McInnes, Kiran Sura, Luke Bettesworth, Randolph Brazier, Bryony Worthington, Staffan Qvist, Chris Stephens, Chris Stark, Randi Kristiansen, Amanda Brockbank, Euan McLeod andAndrew Lever
