The Repower World Summit 2025, Katowice, Poland - Meet Our Speakers!

The Repower World Summit 2025 will take place in Katowice, Poland, on March 4th – March 5th. The summit will bring together a distinguished lineup of experts dedicated to the clean energy transition.

The Repower World Summit 2025 will take place in Katowice, Poland, on March 4th – March 5th.The summit is hosted by the Silesian University of Technology, partnering with Quantified Carbon, who are ‘Technical Patrons’. Up to 300 people can participate in this event.

The summit will bring together a distinguished line up of experts dedicated to the clean energy transition. With leaders from policy, technology, finance, industry and research, the summit offers a unique opportunity to explore solutions for repowering coal-based energy systems, by replacing them with low-emission generation sources at their existing sites.

This multidisciplinary event will foster discussions, strategies, and cross-sector engagement, accelerating the forward momentum of how global energy systems can be decarbonised and enhanced to meet the electricity and heating demands of a fast-changing world.

A selection of some of the expert speakers featured at the event: 

Baroness Bryony Worthington, Advisor, Repower Initiative: A key architect of the UK's Climate Change Act, Baroness Worthington brings invaluable experience from her roles in the energy industry, non-profits, and philanthropy, as well as her position in the UK House of Lords. 

Bożena Horbaczewska, Assistant Professor, SGH Warsaw School of Economics: An expert in the economic and financial aspects of nuclear energy. She leads postgraduate studies in Nuclear Energy and is an independent consultant to the Ministry of Climate and Environment. 

Dorota Jeziorowska, Director, PTEC – Polish Society for Thermal Power: A graduate of the AGH University of Science and Technology, she has worked in government ministries and authored numerous publications on energy efficiency, heating, cogeneration, and energy transformation. 

Julia Skorupska, Head of Secretariat, Powering Past Coal Alliance: A former UK diplomat She works with PPCA to advance the transition from unabated coal power generation to clean energy, supporting projects with governments in a third of the world’s countries.  

Lukasz Grela: A graduate of the Silesian University of Technology with significant experience in the energy industry. He contributed to the transformation of ENERGOPROJEKT-KATOWICE SA into a modern design and engineering office. 

Maciej Lipka, Nuclear engineering specialist: A graduate of the Warsaw University of Technology, specialising in nuclear reactor safety, decarbonisation, and integrating renewable and nuclear energy. He previously worked at the National Center for Nuclear Research. 

Ning Li, Founding Dean, College of Energy, Xiamen University (Keynote Speaker for Day 2): A distinguished professor, Ning Li has held notable roles at UC Berkeley and Los Alamos National Laboratory. He is globally recognised for his work in nuclear research and development. 

Patryk Białas, Director, Innovation and Competence Center at the Euro-Centrum Science and Technology Park in Katowice: A councillor, speaker and activist involved in regional development, technological advancement, and engaging communities on climate, ecology, and just transition issues. 

Paweł Gajda, Director, Nuclear Energy Department at the Ministry of Industry: Gajda is a General Secretary of the Polish Nuclear Society and a board member of the European Nuclear Society. Scientifically, he focuses on reactor physics, new generation reactor technologies, and the role of nuclear energy in low-emission energy systems.

Dr Staffan Qvist, CEO, Quantifed Carbon (Keynote Speaker for Day 1): With a Ph.D., in Nuclear Engineering from University of Berkshire, California, Staffan is the Founder of the Repower Initiative, and has written and published extensively on Nuclear Science and Engineering. He is the co-author of the book ‘A Bright Future: How Some Countries Have Solved Climate Change and the Rest Can Follow’.

Stanisław Tokarski: A Doctor of Engineering at the Academy of Science and Technology (AGH), Krakow, with extensive expertise in energy systems, Tokarski has contributed to European institutions, offering opinions on legal acts related to the electricity and fuel sectors. 

We are sure it will be a fascinating and lively discussion, as hundreds of people gather together to explore solutions to what is one of the most crucial problems to solve in our time –how to effectively decarbonise our global civilization.
